Author driving his MkI* Universal Carrier at the War and Peace Show in Kent. The carrier is badged to his father’s regiment, 8th Punjab of the 20th Indian Infantry Division.

“I started collecting in 1987 after my father died and I sent away for his war record. That was when I discovered he had been a carrier officer in the British Indian Army. My search for a carrier began.

By sheer chance I met Bill Ireland, and his Dingo Scout Car, who introduced me to the Scottish Military Vehicle Group. Through this group I met another member who was selling a carrier. After the purchase of this carrier my research began in earnest and eventually several years down the road I had collected a vast library of carrier information. I had also accumulated over these years other militaria associated with the vehicles I now owned and ran.

Through having my carrier I met many other owners who all were continually in search of parts, information and drawings for their ongoing restoration work. I then decided the best way was to write a carrier specific book (which turned into a series of three!), so that those searching for information had a starting point. I hope others will take this research further.”
